LIMDOW
Last modified: Tuesday, October 21, 2008
A technology that speeds the copying of information from main memoryto CD-ROM. The conventional process for copying to CD-ROM, called magnetic-optico (MO) technology, requires that the disk pass at least twice under the head -- once for erasing and once for copying (also called writing). LIMDOW modulates the laser's intensity for both processes to complete the writing in a single rotation.
Webopedia Quick Reference: Removable Storage Reference Accessing data from a disk is not as fast as accessing data from main memory, but disks are much cheaper. And unlike RAM, disks hold on to data even when the computer is turned off. Consequently, disks are the storage medium of choice for most types of data.
