The term used to describe a satellite, launched by Japan, that is capable of
providing Internet connectivity at speeds of 1.2 GB/sec
around the world. Called the WINDS satellite, it was first launched in February 2008
and it initially focused on providing Internet connectivity in the Asia-Pacific region. It's a joint venture
between two companies Japan Aerospace Exploration
Agency (JAXA) and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.
