An open source alternative to the BIND (Berkeley Internet Name Domain) domain name system, Unbound is a validating, recursive and caching DNS server that has been released under the BSD license. The current public release is Unbound 1.0., which includes both a server daemon enabling cached DNS lookups via port communications; and a resolver library that can be linked into developer applications, enabling them to perform or provide DNS lookups directly. Unbound: Open Source Caching DNS Server Supported by NLnet Labs and grown from the efforts of several companies including VeriSign, Nominet, and Kirei, Unbound is a validating, caching DNS server and resolver library released to the public as open source. VeriSign Takes Aim at Open Source DNS New Unbound DNS server offers an alternative to BIND, but the project's developers aren't worried.
