wrapper
Last modified: Tuesday, October 30, 2001
Software that accompanies resources or other software for the purposes of improving convenience, compatibility, or security. For example, a wrapper is used to compress and encrypt software that is being sold over the Internet. It is also used to make EDI - a decades-old electronic commerce standard - compatible with the Internet. The term can also apply to hardware: the casing around a Pentium IICPU is called a wrapper.
